Specialist care for persistent symptoms after a whiplash injury
What you should know about whiplash-related symptoms
Whiplash is a term used to describe an injury mechanism in which the head and neck are suddenly forced backwards and forwards, often after a car accident, sports injury or fall.
In the first days or weeks, whiplash-related symptoms may include neck pain, headaches, dizziness, stiffness, fatigue or difficulty concentrating. For many people, these symptoms gradually improve.
For others, symptoms persist for months or even years. This can affect work, driving, exercise, sleep, family life and social activities. Amsterdam Brain Center provides specialist care for people with persistent neurological symptoms after a whiplash injury.
How we approach whiplash-related symptoms
Persistent symptoms after a whiplash injury may be related to changes in how the nervous system processes information and regulates functions such as balance, eye movements, neck movement, coordination, sensory input and autonomic responses.
During the intensive treatment week, we use a combination of non-invasive therapies and exercises. The aim is to support nervous system function, improve tolerance to movement and sensory input, and help you return to daily activities where possible.

Your road to recovery
One week of intensive treatment
Step 1
The Functional Neurological Examination (FNE)
You share your symptoms with us, prompting us to ask relevant questions and conduct a thorough Neurological Examination. This process allows us to assess whether our treatment is well-suited to your needs.
Step 2
Advanced Machine Testing (quantification)
Based on Step 1, we determine what tests are necessary to quantify the underlying cause of the symptoms. To do this, we use a range of computer-controlled equipment.
Step 3
Rehabilitation week (in 5 days)
We address the problems. Through an individual program specifically tailored to your problems, we bring back function during an intensive week of treatment.
Step 4
Aftercare
After the 5-day intensive treatment week, we will give you homework assignments. These are exercises that further promote your recovery. We are happy to keep an eye on these developments with you.
What do we expect from you?
Our treatment for persistent whiplash-related symptoms is offered as an intensive one-week programme. During this week, you attend the clinic daily and take part in a structured combination of assessments, therapies and exercises.
This intensive format allows us to monitor your response closely and adjust the treatment where needed. For this reason, the programme is not offered in separate phases.
If you start treatment with us, we ask you to reserve the full treatment week and actively participate in the programme. We will explain beforehand what this involves, so you know what to expect.
