Why do we conduct balance research?<\/h2>\n

When the body is insufficiently aware of its position, this can directly or indirectly disrupt various brain functions.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The body has three systems for balance:
The vision<\/strong>: The eyes provide information about how the head is positioned.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The vestibular system<\/strong>: The vestibular system provides information about the position of the body.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Proprioception<\/strong>: This muscle sensation provides information about the position of limbs.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

These systems complement each other, so that the body always knows what position it is in and how it relates to the world around us.
When one or more of these systems are disrupted, this can have major consequences. The brain then has to check or correct the information, which takes a lot of energy and reduces brain capacity.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

With the balance assessment, we determine whether all balance systems are functioning properly and whether they are sending the same information to the brain. A disruption in one or more of these systems can cause other brain functions to malfunction.<\/p>\n

The balance assessment consists of a series of tests. We use various methods to measure how good your balance is and where your center of gravity lies.<\/p>\n

We do this by adjusting the conditions for your body. For example, we isolate certain systems so that we can test them independently. We do this using various exercises and equipment.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

For example, by asking you to close your eyes while your surface changes. Or we ask you to stand on a sloping\/unstable surface while your eyes are fixed. We measure your center of gravity or change it.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

By testing the systems individually, we gain an impression of how well the systems function and what influence they may have on the brain.<\/p>\n
